Prostatitis
Inflammation of the prostate gland.
Acute or chronic inflammation of the prostate can cause pain when urinating, pelvic floor tension and hesitancy when starting to urinate. It is managed in urology, with or without an identified infection.
More Informations
Chronic pelvic pain in men, with no infection found.
Definition
Chronic prostatitis, or chronic pelvic pain syndrome, combines pain in the perineum, testicles or lower abdomen and urinary symptoms, with no bacterium identified.
Causes
The mechanisms are unclear: pelvic floor muscle tension, inflammation, nerve sensitisation.
Diagnosis
- Urine analysis before and after prostate massage.
- Ruling out other urological causes.
Treatments
A combined approach: pelvic floor physiotherapy, medicines that relax the prostate, anti-inflammatories on medical advice, stress management. Antibiotics are only useful when an infection is proven.
Prostatitis can hinder the end of urination and cause dribbling afterwards. The Men guard absorbs these drops discreetly; if there is pain, medical treatment remains the priority.
